Youth Civic Association

Everyday Washington's youth are continually overlooked and not put into the bigger perspective when changes are made that effect them. They are also seen as violent, disrespectful, unruly and disruptive to the community. However this is true for some youth, there is a large number of youth who are outstanding citizens that don't deserve to be labeled.
Edgewood Civic Association covers one of the largest areas in Ward 5 and there are countless numbers of youth without a voice. In a recent meeting we discussed the fact that the youth in the neighborhood are always criticized for their activities and trends, but there are very few positive suggestions or alternatives, The truth is no one knows what the youth need more then the youth themselves, but how can they convey there message and needs? Currently, they don't feel they have much opportunity - where they can be earnestly heard. So Edgewood Civic Association has proposed to start a Youth component of the Edgewood Civic Association to give our youth a voice. This is a major part of our mission, we would like the youth to establish it with the support of the adults within the community. We are asking that parents, teachers, mentors and anyone who know youth invite them to come to our meetings and share there ideas on how we can get this up and running; as well to discuss with our group ideas submitted by the adult population.
Please help us spread the idea to the youth of Edgewood by inviting them to our April 27th, meeting. Let's give our youth a chance by giving them a voice! You come and bring one or some!
