Dear Consumers & Neighbors,
This afternoon from 3:00pm - 4:00pm, WPFW and Executive Producer Gladys L. Brooks " From the Vault, From the Community" will host a special community conversation on the District of Columbia - Office of the Peoples Counsel.
The program is part of the Empower DC " Speak Our Piece" series of programs on important issues affecting District of Columbia residents. The topic: Finding Our Courage; Reclaiming Our Consumer Champion - The Office of the Peoples Counsel.
I will moderate the program and have invited a informed panel of community leaders to participate in this conversation. The invited guest will be: Brian Lederer- Former People's Counsel; Dorothy Brazil - DC Watch; Joyce Robinson-Paul - DC Statehood Green Party; and Robert Robinson - Mt. Pleasant Solar Cooperative.
We will discuss the mission and purpose of the Office of the People's Counsel and its impact representing DC residential consumers before the Public Service Commission, Federal Communication Commission, and Courts. What are the opportunities and challenges currently facing residential consumers and what will we face in the future.
We will also discuss the local politics surrounding the Office of the People's Counsel and the efforts of the utility companies to undermine the office. More importantly, we will discuss Mayor Fenty's decision to not re-nominate the successful incumbent People's Counsel Elizabeth A. Noel.
You can listen to the show on-line at WPFW 89.3 FM - Pacifica Radio. I hope you will listen to the show it should be a lively conversation.
