Phase 2 Fare Changes Start August 1
In response to customer comments to avoid service cuts, Metro took a number of actions to maintain services, including obtaining more funding from the government jurisdictions. But fare adjustments are still required. The second phase of those changes takes effect on August 1.
Fares
Metro will enact a new 20¢ surcharge during peak-of-the- peak periods (weekdays 7:30 - 9 a.m. and 4:30 - 6 p.m., based on the starting time of the trip). The surcharge for senior citizens (age 65 and older) and people with disabilities will be 10¢.
Passes
On August 1, the cost of three Metrorail passes will increase.
Weekly Short Trip Pass: $32.35
Weekly Fast Pass: $47
Transit Link Card: $102
SmarTrip®
Also beginning August 1, Metrorail customers will enjoy the same savings of SmarTrip® as Metrobus riders. Customers will save 25¢ per Metrorail trip if they use a SmarTrip® card instead of a paper farecard.
The cost of a SmarTrip® card is going down, too. Starting August 29, the price drops 50%, from $5 to just $2.50!
