Last week the Friends of Harry Thomas held a board meeting to discuss the much needed renovation of the Harry Thomas Recreation Center. Jackie Stanley from the Capitol Project division of DPR will be managing the project.

 

There will be renovations and upgrades to the outside and inside of the facility. Interior renovations will include but are not limited to Painting, boy and girl bathroom upgrades, kitchen renovation which will include new appliances. The boxing area will be redone with new rubber floor surfaces and new exercise equipment will be added. The locker room floors, lockers, tiles and lights will be redone. The computer lab will also be redone which includes new computer tables.

 

Some exterior upgrades will include new tennis courts, horseshoe pits, new basketball courts as well as new landscaping.

During the meeting citizens expressed their concern that they have been told there was money for an expansion for years but it has never happened. This has also been a concern at the Edgewood rec center as well which is also undergoing facility upgrades. The facility upgrades are greatly appreciated but more needs to be done in order for theses facilities to properly service the residents.
