ANC5C votes on Big Bear Liquor license

In case anyone missed it ANC5C voted to *not* support Big Bears liquor license at this time. The vote was based on a resolution created by neighbors to the Big Bear cafe. The Residents in opposition created a resolution that outlined why they deemed it inappropriate for BBC to serve liquor. The resolution spoke to Big Bears illegal operation of a curbside cafe, their violation of zoning laws and events held at the cafe that served liquor without permits. ANC5C Meeting Agenda 7/20/2010

Although the agenda was not sent out to the community in accordance with article 8, section 6 of ANC5C  bylaws the commission will convene on Monday. Brian Brown the developer of the firehouse on North Capitol street will give a presentation on his plans for the building which are to include a banquette hall, restaurant and lounge. ANC5C Guide on DC Alcoholic Beverage Licenses

Over the last couple of months there has been a ongoing debate on Liquor Licenses within ANC5C. A lot of the debate stems from the restaurant liquor license application from local coffee shop Big Bear Cafe in Bloomingdale DC. During the often time heated discussion on how the anc should handle liquor license applications talks of a ABC guide arose. The guide would hopefully help the commission better determine what businesses they should give licenses to and  what license should be given.

This is to advise that the ANC5C Community Meeting, previously scheduled for 7-9pm on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 is postponed until Tuesday, March 16, 2010.  The location of the March 16 meeting is the Mt.
