(Washington, DC)  The DC Department of Public Works (DPW) announced today how services will be affected in observance of Memorial Day, Monday, May 31, 2010.

Trash Collection: There will be no trash and recycling collections. Trash and recycling collections will “slide” to the next day for the remainder of the week.  For example, Monday’s trash and recycling collections will be made on Tuesday and Tuesday’s collections will be made on Wednesday. ...

On Tuesday, I decided to stroll over to the Edgewood Rec Center and play a game of basketball and enjoy the nice weather under one of the large oaks they have on the property. My experience was quite the contrary. At first I was pleased to see a group of students from Shade elementary enjoying some of the new playground equipment put in during the recent renovations. Then I saw what they were playing in and around....
