Greening the community has been a topic lately on the Eckington List Serv. A Few blogs back i posted info on ways residents can do there part in adding more green space to the community through rebates from DDOE and Casey Trees. Since then I have been in contact with the good folks at Casey to have a inventory done on the plantable space within the community. The D.C. Department of Health ordered the temporary closure of the Safeway located at 514 Rhode Island Ave. NE on Wednesday due to a vermin infestation, officials said.

A call to the store confirmed that it remains closed this morning. The store "will reopen once all issues have been corrected," said DOH spokesperson Dena Iverson in an email.
