Today DDOT is scheduled to begin a long needed construction project. The project will take place at the intersection of 1st Street, Florida Avenue, New York Ave and Eckington Place. The project is projected to cost about 3.8 million dollars. Most of the work will not affect rush-hour commute.

Improvements to the intersection include realignment of the curbs, upgraded street lightning and traffic signals, new landscaping, building ramps that meet ADA standards, pedestrian islands and medians.

Last week the Friends of Harry Thomas held a board meeting to discuss the much needed renovation of the Harry Thomas Recreation Center. Jackie Stanley from the Capitol Project division of DPR will be managing the project.

There will be renovations and upgrades to the outside and inside of the facility. Interior renovations will include but are not limited to Painting, boy and girl bathroom upgrades, kitchen renovation which will include new appliances. The boxing area will be redone with ...
